Unlike the more famous StuG III assault gun, the Jagdpanther tank destroyer wasn’t a combination of a modified fighting compartment and a Panther tank chassis. In fact, it’s an early planned tank destroyer which shared a lot of parts with the Panther tanks. So some features of the Jagdpanther changed in a different way from the Panther’s. The core of this tank destroyer was an 8.8cm Pak 43 L/71 anti-tank gun. This powerful L/71 heavy anti-tank gun had only some difference in details with King Tiger’s 8.8cm KwK 43 gun. The Jagdpanther also had outstanding armor protection. The protection provided by the 80mm front hull sloped armor was better than the one on Tiger I. The 50mm sloped armor on the sides was also one of the best among the WWII armors. The Jagdpanther was powered by the same power system which provided excellent mobility. The production of the Jagdpanther lasted for one year and a half and only about 400 rolled out the production line under the Allied air raids. Most of them were the Jagdpanther Ausf. G1.
